When I was a young person I always dreamed of going to a church kids summer camp when I was old enough. They always said that we would sleep in cabins, we could go horseback riding which was always something that I wanted to do, hiking and exploring but only with a group, swimming there was also go carting. We also heard that they had organized sporting events like basketball, voleyball, softball, kickball and fun sporting event for everyone where they would do a variety of competetions and someone always would win the first, second and third place ribbons. This always seemed so fun, so when I was young I waited very impatiently to be able to go, but when I was almost old enough we moved away so it was a couple years later that I got to go and enjoy all of the fun things that go with summer camp. Give your kids that fun opportunity when they are old enough. When they go to summer camp they have a list of things that they should take along. Here are some items that they should take along and some great items that they should take along...with the modern days that we are in there are many kids camping items or kids camping gear that are made just for them.
They should take along of course enough lightweight clothing to last for the time that they are to stay. In my case it was a 5 days it can be a week to all summer (personally I would not send a child younger than 5th grade for the whole summer. If it´s a week or two maybe a child between 2nd and 4th grade). Don´t forget a towel and bathing suit, also they need atleast a light jacket for the evening in case it gets chilly. Good kids camping gear such as a sleeping bag now there are even kids mummy sleeping bags which will make it more fun and exciting for them, a backpack for carrying some items and/or a kids suitcase, a kids flashlight for getting around at night or emergency lights such as kids illumipods in case they get lost in the woods, there are also kids lanterns which are specifically made for children since they are operated by batteries (if they are going all summer you should include extra batteries in their suitcase) making them perfectly safe for your young one. You need to find a good kids mosquito repellent that is proven to keep the insects away. You should buy them a kids size storage bags or kids laundry bags which are designed just for them, this way they will remember to put their dirty clothes away and not leave them on the floor.
If it´s an organized camp ground like the one we went to, they will sleep in cabins. But some overnight or 2-3 day/night trips are in the great outdoors so they will need a Coleman kids tent to set up their tent along with their friends. If they are good friends you could probably get an outdoor child tent made for two or more. For sure they need to take along kids iluminipods or emergency lights in case they get separated from the group. Of course they need their kid flashlight or a kid lantern for seeing themselves through the dark to their tent. There are other fun things that they can take along in their camping gear such as a lightning bug lantern which will store lightning bugs safely and without harming the lightning bugs. A kids compass for letting them have fun learning where the north, south, east and west are. They can also take along a kids air mattress for either camping in a cabin or even camping under the stars for more comfort. It is such fun and can be a great learning experience for your youngun if they have the right kids camping gear. If not they or you might regret it for the rest of their/your lives. Of course your child is always accompanied by a leader, but sometimes children get distracted or can get held up behind the group so having the right equipment will help him be able to get help quickly. Remind your child of the golden rule: if you get lost stay where you are don´t go wondering around. Try to always stay with the group, but if you do get lost just stay put, because it is easier for the leader to backtrack and find you. When you send your child off to summer camp or a camping trip you will feel more secure knowing that he has the right kids camping gear. |
